I'm not a big player of The UK's
National Lottery myself but I do realise that many
people do have a punt on the lottery each week either
on their own or as part of a syndicate.
What I hope to do here is to give
you some ideas as to how to approach playing the
lottery and I will have some
Excel spreadsheets available for download that will
populate lottery plans that will help stack the odds
in the punters favour.
There are a number of ways of
playing the lottery and they range from picking random
numbers to using a full perm or a plan. Plans have
been used successfully on football pools for years and it is
logical to use the plans and plan blocks within a
pools syndicate environment.

Full Perms
The problem with a full perm is that you
may have 9 lucky numbers but to get a any 6 from 9 entry
on the lottery you have to fill in all 84 lines and
getting the lines chart to ensure that you have all the
lines is not easy. They are
simple to understand though as any 3,4,5 or 6 numbers
within your entry will win you the prize for that number
of balls.
-
Any 6 from 7 = 7 bets
-
Any 6 from 8 = 28 bets
-
Any 6 from 9 = 84 bets
-
Any 6 from 10 = 210 bets
-
Any 6 from 11 = 462 bets
For my money though as you duplicate lots
of lines with 4 + 5 numbers then you cut down your
chances to actually hit the winning numbers. A full perm
chart is useful, however, as you can determine your
chance of a jackpot prior to playing.

Plans
I prefer to use a plan where you can
have say 14 numbers in 49 bets that will give you a
good chance of a big prize if you can catch all of the
winning numbers. The 49 lines plan would work
well for a syndicate. The point of a plan is to try
and make sure that you have a cover as many numbers as
you so that you can give yourself a chance of the big
prize or smaller prizes each week.
I have two 14 number plans available
for download into Excel at the moment and both have a
random number generator and a facility to input your
own numbers.
I will be looking at covering 16 and
18 numbers in due course which have up to 144
lines. And for solo investors there will be a 12
number plan in 12 lines.
